What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? PA

Is there a time limit on receiving the benefits from a life insurance policy? My husband passed away in 1984 and I recently found some paperwork indicating that he may have had another life insurance policy that I did not know about at the time. Can I contact the company with the expectation that I can receive any benefits now?

If you didn't know about the policy, obviously you have not been making payments on it. A policy for which there have been no premium payments in 20 years is not going to be valid any longer.

However, the possibility always exists that it MIGHT have been a paid-up policy.

So go ahead and contact the insurance company. The worst that can happen is that your claim would be denied.

You may also want to check the state unclaimed property websites for the state where the insurance company is located and for the state where you live (find the websites through www.naupa.org), to see if possibly the insurance company may have refunded the premiums to those state sites if the insurance company made no effort to contact your husband about this.
