What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
Georgia
My parents bought a timeshare in North Georgia around 1995; the maintenance fees have become astronomical, and they have had no luck getting rid of it. They have just continued paying the fees and using it. A year ago, they sat through a timeshare sales pitch in Flordia, toured the place, liked it, and decided to buy a week there. The place agreed to take the other timeshare as a "trade in". At that time, the maintenance fees were due, but the company in Flordia agreed to pay them (it is in the contract). They were to return home, sign the deed, have it notarized and mail them to the Flordia company. They did everything they were supposed to do. Last week, they received the deeds back from a company (not the one the Flordia timeshare was purchased from) that said they would still give them the credit for the timeshare in N. Ga., but they could have it back (they sent the old deeds back). They also received a bill for last years and this years maintenance fees because the company never transferred the titles! Does the company in Flordia not have to honor what they said in the contract (take the timeshare)? They didn't want it then and they sure do not want it with 2 years' maintenance fees (which are now close to $1,200 a year). Can they do anything about this? Thanks
