What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IL

Not sure if this is the right area for this.

I need some advice on a situation I am in.

Awhile ago my mom went to get a title loan, and she asked me to be the cosigner, I agreed to do it because I wanted to help her, but I had no idea how much trouble this could get me in.

Whenever I went to her house I noticed I had mail there, they were parking tickets in my name (I have never even had a drivers license yet) There were a few tickets there, I decided to pay them since I knew she wouldn't, I didn't want them to pile up even more since they were in my name. I paid around 300 dollars worth in her parking tickets.

As of today she has gotten over 15,000 dollars worth of tickets and I had no idea about these tickets since they never come to my address, only hers and she never shows them to me. The notice says that if I don't pay the entire thing they are going to start garnishing my wages. Is there any way I can get out of this? Like I said, I don't even have a license, I have never driven a car in my life. The title loan person never mentioned any tickets would be in my name. Maybe it was in the contract I signed, but they didn't even give me a copy of that or anything. They put the car in my name, so this is why my name is on all the tickets. We didn't even know doing the cosigner thing would put the car in my name, until after everything was all filled out,and they gave us the new title. I feel like I was tricked by them, but I know I am mostly to blame here. I can easily prove I had nothing to do with those tickets since I have never had a drivers license, but I know the people this money is owed to doesn't care.

Is there anything I can do? Am I just going to have to pay it all myself? I'd like to talk to a lawyer, but I have a feeling that wont help me.

I would have no problem filing for bankruptcy if it would help getting away from all of this, even though it would mess up my credit (I don't even have any yet) but I have read that bankruptcy doesn't count towards tickets?

I should also mention that the title loan place is not paid off either, so it isn't like she can just take me off of the title.

The car has also been taken away by the city a few months ago, no idea where it is now.

Generally it is difficult to impossible to use bankruptcy to remove gov't debt. A lawyer is a good idea at this point. Perhaps you should have addressed the issue with mom before all this happened.

A title loan is where you borrow money and use your car as collateral. A parking ticket is where you parking illegally and get a fine issued by the city/town etc. What the connection between the two?

Sometimes when dealing with these situations it is to much information on how the I's were dotted and the T's were crossed.

I am the cosigner for the title loan. The title was transferred into my name. Now I seem to be responsible for every ticket that car has.

Let me tell you what you already know: You've done a very foolish thing.

1. Signing on the title loan makes you 100% responsible to pay it.
2. Owning the car (which is what "the title being in your name" means) means you are responsible for the parking tickets.
3. Title loans are egregiously BAD deals interest rate wise.
4. I have severe doubts about your insurance coverage which could also make things very bad if mom is involved in a wreck.

You need to get this car back from mom ASAP. She can not apparently be trusted.
You then need to figure out what to do with the debt you have. If mom is unable to assist, you are going to have to work out the issues with both the Title Loan and the municipality.

The car was taken by the city a few months ago, no idea what happened to it. So, talking to anyone will probably be a waste of time and I should just start paying it off?

Also, will this effect me getting a license in the future while I still owe this?

You need to see a bk attorney. Odds are, you may well have to file a Chapter 13 to either discharge them or, have them ina 3 to 5 year plan to make the payment more manageable.
Most bk lawyers will give a free or lowcost initial consultation.

Holy Crap!
That amount blows my mind since where I live, the top fine for a parking ticket is $25!!
A lot of them are the same tickets, but since they weren't paid they kept going up, also a lot of tickets for her plates being expired.
