What is the name of your state? FL, but this is about someone in the State of TN

My father in law is 70 years old. He has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. The problem we see is his near 50 year old girlfriend. He gets about 1100 a month in SS, his home is paid for and he maybe only owes for a couple vehicles, one he has give to the GF. He also works because he said he "has" to. The reason we see (he has 6 kids, all grown) he has to work is this girlfriend. She is there every Friday for payday and also around the first of the month for SS day. She did live with him but now lives in her own place which he pays the mortgage on. It is obvious she is using him for money. She also tells him to "leave his kids" out of his illness/life.

What we want to know is there any laws in TN that will protect him from women like her? Not sure if he willingly gives her the money or how she gets him to give it to her. His children are concerned for his health and welfare. He does not have to work but does so because of the GF. Of course once he starts his chemo/radiation he may not be able to continue. She is married to someone else, but uses him for money etc.

Is there anything his kids can do? It is not like they do not like her, she went to school with one of the daughters, but they do not like that she keeps taking his money and using him for her own benefit. His wife passed away a few years ago. Any advice is appreciated. Of course we understand this just may be one of those situations where the kids can do nothing to protect their dad.

Well, if she is married to someone else you don't have to worry about dad marrying her....at least not at this point so that's a plus.

However, if your dad is of sound mind, then he is a legal adult able to make his own choices....and there is nothing that anyone can do to protect him.

Thank you for the reply. That is what we were afraid of...nothing can be done. She is married to someone else and the husband is hiding out so she can not serve him (a spite thing we figure) but she is putting an ad or some such in some out of the way newspaper so she can divorce him that way.

It is just so obvious that she uses my father in law for his money and does nto want his kids involved in his life at all. I suspect it is because she knows that if the 6 kids are involved, then her chances get pretty slim at getting what she wants. I just hate to see an elderly person taken advantage of and this is what she is doing.

Again, thanks for the reply and info.
