I was a widow with a 15 year old son. I have now remarried and my son lives with his Grandmother in our home town. I want to give Joint Custody to his Grandmother sence I can not be there every day. The school is requireing the Joint Custody so he can play sports.

Is there a place I can down load a form on the internet or fill out or can I wright one and have it whittnessed... or does it have to be done threw a lawyer?

Need help in Va.

I dont believe you would be required to go the joint custody route, youshould be able to get what you need accomplished through a power of attorney. Which can be done by yourself and notarized. A joint custody agreement would limit your parental rights and give the grandparents the right to collect support from you and if desired petition for full custody.

Also, Joint Custody is only valid if decided in a court of law. You cannot just give someone joint custody of your child without a judge okaying the petition.
