Simple Question
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What is the name of your state? North Carolina
I was in a breakroom the other day at work when two other employees of my organization entred the break room. After entering one of the employees looked at me and said " Isn't that one of your people"? I replied "what are you talking about?" The employee said again "you know Salese isn't that one of your people"? Now a bit of history, this employee is referring to an arrested Chief of Police who's last name is Salese. This employee is without a doubt referring to my Italian heritage. The reason I am asking because it took some composure not to react inappropriately to this remark. So I was wondering is there a case of harassment, or another EEOC violation. This employee is known for making comments to other employees and is currently under IA review for another set of commnets. We are tired of it so I was wondering, other than a City Code violation is there anything else? Thanks
I don't know why your post was closed but here's the answer: a single rude/ignorant remark does not come close to falling in the category of prohibited harassment, especially one as vague as this. You're free to notify management that this employee continues to make offensive comments but that's the extent of any action you can take. You're also free to tell her to "clam up" the next time she says something stupid to you.
