What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Florida

I am a tenant in a home that went into foreclosure two months after we move in. We were served and stopped paying rent. The landlord did not contact us for 6 months and only called 1x to ask for us to send him money. He also said he was talking it over with the bank to save the home. We told him to send us proof. That was the last we heard from him, & got nothing so far. The soon to be ex wife called 5 months after him to ask for back rent. The lease is up at the end of the month. We have gotten zero notices of any kind from the landlord. We are waiting on the foreclosure attorney to tell us when we need to move. Can the landlord do anything like filing a judgement against is for back rent now? What are our rights? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

You had no right to stop paying your rent. Yes, the LL can (and likely will) get a judgment against you if you don't make other arrangements.

I'm surprised the LL didn't file paper work to evict you for non-payment of rent. They must be new...

The rental home going into foreclosure does NOT relieve you of your CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS to pay rent. The LL is NOT required to provide you with ANY proof. As long as the home is still in their name, their financial business is NONE of your business.

Expect to be evicted, and sued for ALL months NOT paid as well as a judgement for said monies put on your credit report.
