What is the name of your state? CA

I really love cats, but the situation has gotten out of hand. There are just way too many free roaming cats damaging my property, and leaving gobs of poop on my lawn (no, they don’t always bury it). Are there any legal remedies I can pursue against the (multiple) owners? There are no cat leash laws in my area.

My response:

Since you didn't state your County name, I can only give you a general answer - - because without the County name, I don't know which Municipal Codes to research.

But, generally speaking, and since cats roam, the vast majority of California counties refuse to write "cat laws". Ergo, there's nothing you can do.

My further response:

Well, I may have misspoken just a tad; there is "something" you can do. Your local animal shelter will loan you animal traps. Once caught, you can bring the animals to the shelter, or to any "animal society"; e.g., the ASPCA.

I don't want to hurt them.
And big dog poop, instead of little cat poop?... I don't think so
Besides, I am a cat person, not a dog person. I just don't like being overrun with them.
I'm in Los Angeles, BTW.

My response:

Okay, I'm in L.A., too. So, I can tell you, definitely, you have no Municipal code(s) that will help you.

Find a friend who has a Rott, ask them to give you some Rott feces, in a bag of course. Then wearing gloves and using an old coffee can place the Rott feces in the coffee can or similar contianer with water to cover and a bit more. Cover this with tin foil and put it on the BBQ and cook to sterilize, uncovering occasionally to stir with a stick for about 1 hour. Add water if needed to make liquid and pour this liquid fertilizer around the edge of your property, the cats will think you have a BIG dog and will stay away. Bag and throw away all containers and sticks used :D
