Me and 7 fellow employees were towed from a city parking lot. There were no baricades or signs stating no parking. There is a local civic center that requested the towing of the vehicles because they said they have rights to the parking lot when they are having special events, if so, shouldn't the parking lot have signs or a parking attendent or something so that noone parks there. The towing company charged each of us $100 to get our cars back. Do we have any legal rights and if so, we should we contact? The local police were no help.

Call the city's office of parking enforcement on Monday. They should be able to advise you on the local ordinances. I would think that if this was an onging issue that you would have already been aware of such enforcement or were your vehicles paked there a long time? Did you pay a fee? What signs are posted?

Towed from city parking lot

We were parked there from 3 pm until around 7pm when they towed us. There were absolutely no signs posted although the civic center said they had wooden baricades at the parking lot entrance and someone had moved them. When I went to retrieve my vehicle I refused to pay any towing fee, got in my car and drove off the tow truck operators lot. Now the police want me to call them tonight. I need to know my legal rights. I feel my car was illegally towed. Do I have to pay the tow truck driver now? Or tell the police I want to file a complaint for illegal towing?
