To rissaface: re hire atty/dui:
What is the name of your state? CA
Rissa, did you close your thread ???
Just ask for a continuance of the arraignment and plea, as that will give you the most time to make a decision.
You have 45 days from when you enter a plea to the trial date. If the Judge will let you continue the A&P, then that date will be extended (which, it sounds as though you want).
If the Judge insists that you enter a plea (unlikely, if you tell him/her, that you need an atty as you are too confused to proceed) then, enter a Not Guilty plea & ask for a pre-trial date (tell the Prosecutor not to set it for trial, yet).
You may get a nice surprise - maybe the Prosecutor will offer an infraction ... who knows.
If it is an infraction (not a misdemeanor), that is an excellent opportunity to finish it there.
Listen to the offer.
Be sure & ask the Prosecutor to leave his/her offer open until you check with your parents/atty/girlfriend, etc. That is very important - find out if the Prosecutor will keep the offer open or if it's only available for that day.
Good luck. You can do it.
