So I recently traded in a 2014 Hyundai Elantra that I was leasing from Billion Hyundai in Sioux Falls, SD, and I traded it in to Billion Toyota of Sioux Falls, SD. Both locations are part of the same company, Billion, thus why I was able to trade-in a leased vehicle. It was inspected at the time of trade-in, signed all the paperwork, drove home in my new-to-me used 2011 Nissan Rogue, and now, 5 days later, they say there is hail damage and it has to be covered by my insurance. A)There was no hail damage of any kind that I could see prior to the trade in, and they didn't see anything at time of inspection, and B) it was traded in as is for an as is vehicle, and finally C) the vehicle is already off of my insurance.

Do they have the right to make me pay for the repairs, or make my insurance cover it?

They might.

Depends on the terms and conditions of your lease contract and the terms and conditions of your trade in contract.

Two suggestions:

1 - Find out if there have been any hail storms since the day you traded in the car. Your local weather channels can probably help you.

2 - Go look at the car and see what they are talking about.

So there has not been any hailstorms since, and I have seen what they are talking about, it looks like the roof has dimpling like a golf ball, and that's never been there before. Also, if they (the dealership) bought the car already, and all the paperwork is signed, how would I still be responsible for repairing it? The lease does say that the car has to be returned without damage, but they already knew that (same company), and bought the car anyways.
