What is the name of your state? New York (New York City)

I received a parking ticket today. I was illegally parked in a no standing zone at approximately 4pm and came back around 4:30 to discover the ticket on my windshield.

However, the time on the ticket says 1:17PM, not anywhere near 4PM.

Is this a defective ticket? Can I contest the ticket and win?

You were illegally parked, weren't you? Just pay the ticket you got for breaking the traffic law!!

Doesn't anyone know what that little "search" button up top is for anymore?

Read this

Was this the old "orange envelope" handwritten ticket or the new computer generated one?

FWIW, I did check the website before I came here.

I read this already, and it said that the time must be to the minute. I don't know whether this concerns accuracy or completeness.

This is the orange envelope carbon copy. The time error does not appear to be a carbon error (not pressing hard enough).

If it was illegal to park there at 1:17 pm instead of the time you were parked, you still don't have a valid defense. Pay the ticket.

I am not paying for a defective parking ticket. The law is the law, and it says that you don't have to pay defective parking tickets. I'm not paying so much $$$ in tax dollars for cops to not do their jobs properly.

Thanks for all your replies. I've already contested the ticket, with my evidence. Hopefully the cops will be a bit more careful to issue a proper ticket next time.

Sorry, but NYC law says I don't have to pay defective tickets. I contested it.

Bet you 5 times the ticket amount you lose.
At last count, I think meter tickets were $65 each, so be forewarned :p

Anyway, the problem with contesting it is what kind of evidence do you have that you weren't there at 1:17pm? I hope its a priest who's going to come in and testify you were getting married at that time or something equally solid.

Ok, lets all park where ever the heck we want, when we want and for as long as we want. Why should anyone have to pay for breaking the traffic laws???
Lets all do that, then we'll see how much more in taxes we'll all have to fork out. Yippeeeee
