What is the name of your state? N.C.
The state of residency of our children has changed to N.C.
There is an existing custody order from the previous state, but makes no sense to leave it there.
What is required to make the transfer?
Can this be done w/out hiring legal repsresentation?
If so, what papers are required to file?
If no, any idea how much this process should cost?
Thansk in advance for your help!

What is required to make the transfer? You have to prove that a change in jurisdiction is appropriate. That does not mean that N.C. would overrule the parenting plan the other state put into place.
Can this be done w/out hiring legal repsresentation? Yes if you know what you are doing.

If so, what papers are required to file? No one is going to walk you through step by step. If there is a family court facilitators office they may answer your questions.

If no, any idea how much this process should cost? Depends on what the filing fee is (the clerk of courts could tell you) and what your attorney charges and how complicated it is.Thansk in advance for your help!
Family law is extremely fact specific. It depends on the answers to my questions above plus how long the children have been in NC and what have you.
