What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Pa.-------------------------------------------------A few days ago I received a memo from my rental community...I am being fined $ 35.00 for a trash fee (excessive amount of cigarette butts in yard) My oldest son is responsible and I dont dispute the fact that the butts were there. (I have since cleaned them up) ( I do not smoke) My issue is that my neighbors have not been fined( I spoke to two)--and have as many if not more cigarette butts in their yards. I feel as though I've been singled out( I have had a recent dispute w/ the townhouse office about an unrelated issue) If I have to pay the fee/fine shouldn't all of the tenants??? I would love to get some advice. Thanks, Kim

Does the same Landlord own your neighbor property?

You can try and negotiate with your Landlord over the fine; and have your
son use use a butt can to extinguish his smokes as well as his friends that
smoke. After all, you are responsible for your son, and any guest.

Yes , the community ( should ) impose fines for every tenant holder for like violations .

Do they have to ? Not really , and there is no law stating they do .

If this community has a higher up office and personnel , you could take pictures of your neighbor's butts , and ask the fee be waived , or the violation also be imposed on them .

Where will that get you ? Mad neighbors .

Install a "butt bucket" w/sand and caution your son to use it....this is between YOU and your SON....the neighbors' situation is not your concern.
