Hello, I am a college student who has F1 staus, a passport, and I-20 which are all valid. However my visa is expired. I am allowed to stay in the U.S. but technically cannot leave. Since Puerto Rico is U. S. territory can I visit there? And if so, what paperwork should I carry on me?

With the current climate in this country, I would not risk it.

If you are legally present in the US (you are still enrolled in the course of study and your I-94 duration of stay still has time on it), there shouldn't be a reason why you can't go directly from the US to Puerto Rico. There's not any passport check. However, if for whatever reason, you end up outside the US, you are going to find it unlikely they'll let you back into the US (Puerto Rico or elsewhere).
