What is the name of your state? Ohio

Morning. I'm M from Ohio and I have a question about tree removal and liability.

I have a huge old tree that grows just 15 feet from the back of my house. I want to remove the tree myself but am concerned that because of the way the tree is leaning, it will fall on my house.

My question is, IF I take the tree down myself and it falls on my house, would my insurance cover the damage to my house and property?

I've looked at my policy, but I see nothing that addresses an issue like this.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Probably. And, then, you'd probably be cancelled. And, you'd probably have a hard time getting homeowner's insurance again. And, when you do, you'd probably have an astronomical premium for a policy with probably little coverage, and high deductibles.

Good luck.

I had a neighbor who last year had his yard helpers try to start taking down a huge diseased maple tree. After a large leafy branch fell on his house near the front door (fortunately no damage other than bending the gutter), and with power lines on the other side, they stopped.

This year he had a professional crew come in and take it down to the ground and grind the stump without any problems for $700 (although, most quotes were ~$1500).

Not sure if insurance would pay for self-inflicted damage, but over time, you would wind up paying for it one way or another.
