What is the name of your state?Georgia
Around Thanksgiving my baby got sick with bronchitis and being her doctor was closed I had to take her to a local Emergency Room, well they did her vitals and everything went well, no crying or fussing when they checked her temp (rectally). I was told to give her some medicine and that is she started weezing to bring he back in, so I beleive it was a day later she started getting worse so I had to take her back, but this time when the triage nurse took her temp. she started screaming and i dont mean an aggravated scream but like a hurtful scream, well the nurse just held the thermometor in until it beeped and when she took it out ( a few min. later) my baby stopped crying. Every since then when she uses the bathroom (bm) she crys time she tries to get it out, I called the doctor and they couldnt see her until Jan.9 and they said she was prob. just getting constipated (which she hasnt yet) and they would check on her the next visit. I forgot to mention this incident and I am praying that there is not a prob. because of it.
So I guess my question is.....When we go to the doctor (and just say there is something wrong and it is because of this incident,) will it be to late for me to do something?

You're lucky to have HAD a nurse available to you. You know, it's idiots like you (who probably suffer from a degree of Munchausen's Syndrome by proxy) that make nurses and doctors fewer and fewer, causing hospitals to close down - - and insurance rates rising to astronomical levels.

This is obviously your first child, and you just don't understand. In the meantime, try inflating the tires on your trailer.

So, let me see if I got this straight.

Do you think by taking the baby's temperature rectally that it is now causing your baby pain?

I just thought that maybe the thermometor could have been inserted wrong and caused some type of damage. Im sorry if I came out like some prick trying to cause a big deal about this, but I was just trying to get a simple answer. Please forgive me, but Im not trying to sue somebody like that Terror person thinks. Im just concerned.

When you ask "is it too late for me to do anything", I presume you mean as in lawsuit.

If that is your biggest worry with your baby, then no it isn't too late. If you mean medically, which should be your 1st concern, no.

If there was harm to your baby's rectum the doc would be able to check Jan 9.
Obviously if your baby is bleeding from the rectum you should take her back to the hospital now.

Really? You're just concerned? Well, then let's read, again, what you wrote, okay?

You wrote - -

Explain that statement, and then explain WHY I shouldn't have taken that statement as a statement that you intended to sue the nurse and hospital - - considering the FACT that you're on a "legal" site, and not a "medical" site?

Hmmmm?

I don't think you came off sounding like a prick. I just wanted to make sure I understood what you were saying.

The thermometers are designed for taking temperatures that way. I think you may be worrying too much about the nurse taking the temperature and that your child was showing some pain at the same time.

Do as the Doctor has instructed and if the child seems to be getting worse take the baby to ER or call them with your concerns.

IMO, sounds like gas pains. Baby probably hasn't been eating very much and only has air to pass.

Again follow the Doctor's instructions and give baby plenty of fluids.

Good luck.

She has no cause of action because the Triage nurse took the baby's temp rectally and now the baby cries, if there was a problem she would know it, but as for you using the word, "statement three (3) times in one sentence without ";" or "," to make it grammarically and structurally correct

PS you missed a good one today with Ldij but it is locked now :(
Have a Happy New Year!

I'm sure that outrageous salaries and stupid unrealistic lawsuits don't have an affect on inusrance rates!

As a mother, I understand your concerns. I went and bought a 1 second ear thermometer (that cost about what I make on a paycheck), just to avoid the freakiness of trying not to hurt my daughter while taking her temperature.

My advice is to keep a close watch on your baby's BMs, and if they're the least bit bloody, take him/her back to the ER immediately.

Otherwise, the culprit is probably just that the baby didn't feel good anyway, and who wants someone putting anything there when they already feel like crap?

It could be gas or mild constipation, since your body tends to dehydrate faster when you're ill, so try melting a piece of Sonic peppermint in about 8 ounces of warm water and giving that to your baby to soothe gas pains, or mix two ounces of prune juice with 8 ounces of water to soften stools and see if that helps.

As long as the baby has one BM every 2-3 days, there's probably nothing to worry about, but if he/she isn't having them, do go back to the ER to get her rehydrated and possibly put on suppositories to help things along, unless your doctor's appointment rolls around first.

For the record, Munchausen's Syndrome by proxy involves a parent purposely hurting her own child to garner attention.

If you were accusing the OP of anything, it should've been being a hypochondriac.

And until you've tried to take a rectal temp from someone whose anus is smaller than the end of the thermometer, hush. There is a very real possibility of injury, if it's done incorrectly.

First time mother or not, her concerns are valid, and the fact that you're blowing them off simply means that 1) you would be a bad parent and 2) you have no idea what you're talking about.

Please stop giving healthcare related advice. I'll accept that you are most likely well-intentioned but like the saying goes...the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

This mother has every right to be concerned that her infant's intestines have been perforated. Waiting until January 9th to have the infant examined is absurd. Of course, if the infant's bowel was perforated, the infant is seriously ill by now and I doubt the poster needs any advice from us except for who to sue and how to go about suing.

Er...that wasn't directed toward me, was it? My post was quoted, so I wasn't sure you read the part where I said her concerns were valid. *meeps*
