My husband and I live in a small townhouse, there are about 20 connected townhouses in our complex. Two months ago new neighbors moved into the townhouse on our left. They are extremely loud, and fight quite often, sometimes the fights become violent. Tonight the fight became so violent that my husband and I called the police. Before I called the police, I called my manager who also lives within the complex. My manager was not pleased that I had called, and she had a very accusatory tone. She claimed to have seen them, the noisy tenants, only minutes ago at the park across the street. The couple did have a small baby, however, through all the shouting and screaming the wife indicated that their child was in the hospital because her boyfriend/husband had shaken the baby. The fact that I knew that information seemed only to indicate that I was eavesdropping, but not that I had heard all this information because our neighbors were screaming so very loud. The point is that they have been fighting violently off and on for two months. My husband and I decided to call the police. My question is do we have any legal rights concerning getting out of our lease? My husband is out of town often, and I no longer feel comfortable in my home. However, our lease does not run out until May. Our landlord/manager has never been willing to help us with anything. They have been extremely unresponsive concerning all questions we have asked in the past. Any advice would be appreciated.
