What is the name of your state? CA. I have a nephew who’s been around some bad influences. Unfortunately at only, 5, he knows how to cuss already and has flipped me off. I wouldn’t throw him against the wall as an extreme of course or even slap him hard like I’d slap someone my age and size (30), but what are the limits where I can make physical contact? I plan to poke him in his cheek if he cusses or flick his mouth or finger when he acts up like cusses or flips me off, but how ok is that? What if by some chance I left a bruise? I do not want to be charged with child abuse but this guy is too much. I only see him a very very few times a year but how are these? I mean if you’re a
Parent you’re able to use physical discipline on a child but what about uncle to nephew?

Leave the child alone. Leave ALL children alone. See a therapist for your anger issues. STAY AWAY FROM CHILDREN!

He not a "guy", he is a very small child barely out of diapers.

It is up to his parents to discipline him, not an idiot uncle that doesn't know how to deal with his irrational anger a little kid.

How do you solve a child that acts up then? Like what am I supposed to do if he flips me off?? Just take it?? What do I do then?? It’s not at all ok. This goes for just blue too.

If by some chance poking his cheek or flicking him isn’t ok how proper would it be to just tell his parent?

Diamond - the child is trying to get a reaction out of you by swearing, flipping you off, etc. Don't give him the reaction he wants. Ignore him. Walk away.

Seriously. Act like an adult interacting with a child. If you were to do any of the things you suggest to my child, I'd call the authorities.

Addressing it with the parents is your *only* option, since you feel laying on of hands is appropriate - you do not touch a child that is not yours for purposes of discipline *ever*.

I can say that if my brother even *thought* about disciplining one of my kids, he'd be feeling the wrath of a momma. Interestingly, my grands (3&4) have let a few doozies fly - their father is quite prolific. HIS parents have told him to moderate his language around the littles. I just give the little one "the look" and say "Excuse me? Let's try that again, properly."
