What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? I live in the state of Texas.
Hi, I am currently fighting a truancy case. I have missed 14 days of school which are unexcused
for, that I missed throughout the year of the second semester( Towards the end of my senior year). I am
not trying to weasel my out as I did not purposely miss these days of school. It's really hard for me to
explain on a public site why I missed those 14 days of school, but it is mental related I can say that much. I
grew up taking a lot of physical and mental abuse from other children as I grew up through the years( 4th
through 12th). I chose to "stupidly" man it out through the years as that's how I was taught. I know now
that I should have talked to someone as I kept all emotions and e.t.c. to myself it had devastating effects on
the way I think and plays a huge factor on how I am in present time. I did wish to speak to a licensed
psychiatrist but other priorities kept me from pursuing this earlier. Those "other priorities" are me taking a
year off to work instead of immediately going to college right away to help my father, who is in a child
custody battle which has gone for over a year now. She ( my mother) has done severely bad things to him
that have left him financially in danger. My mother is not right in the head ( alcohol and prescription drug abuse are the
cause of that) and must not win custody of my two little brothers or their lives in their future are severely in
jeopardy, and I truly mean this. So I'm continuing to help my dad with the income. But here's where the
truancy problem comes in to play. I had went June 17th to the hearing of truancy that day and had
intended to plead "no contest" to save myself a lot of trouble and just pay the fine. But little did I know that
he was revoking licenses left and right for either in half year or full year amounts. So I pleaded "not guilty"
to buy myself time and to see if anything could be done. He gave all people who pleaded not guilty that day
to reappear in front of him at August seventeenth. I cannot afford to lose my license as I plan to work two
jobs neither being anywhere close to where I live. And no walking or public transportation is not an option
as there are no reliable jobs by the radius of my home's location. Is there any way I that I can ask for an
extended amount of time so as I can be fully evaluated by a licensed psychiatrist? Would getting a note
from the psychiatrist clear me up or possibly lessen the amount of the punishment? I do not mind paying a
fine, and I know this is only a Class C Misdemeanor, but the loss of my license will be a hard one to my
working means. I'd truly appreciate any info or tips that I could use to at least lessen the severity of my
awaiting sentence to come ( If dismissal of my case is not possible). If anybody replies to my post I truly
thank you for your time and effort.
Sincerely,
John Jr.
P.S. I should've mentioned in the beginning but I am 18 since last December and I am only 3 classes away
from getting my diploma which I am currently working on in Re-connect which should only take me two weeks
as they are done on a computer (saves a lot of time). I don't know if this extra info is relevant to my case,
but I thought I'd post it just in case.
