I entered into a Truck driver school contract 2 months ago agreeing to be trained for 2 weeks to obtain a CDL license for $15,000. I was verbally promised along with 20 other individuals that we would make $40,000 our first year, get paid .30/mile, be paid $350-$400/week to attend school, and that the full tuition amount would be paid in full by the truck companies that hire us upon completion. We signed the contracts in SC and attended the school in KY. However, 1 week into the course we found out that the verbal commitments were not coming true. We were not paid 1 dime, found out that companies only pay drivers .26/mile to start out, and that the reimbursement is only up to $5000. The training was also inadequate with mostly correspondence tests and 1 hour of driving experience a day. I decided to quit the school because of the verbal misrepresentations and poor service. However, the school is still going to want me to pay back $15,000 at 21% interest. Am I liable to pay back $15,000 for 1 week of school? Thats $200/hour for training that consisted of nothing more than taking the CDL permit test over and over again until we scored high enough to take the test at the state DMV. Your response will be greatly appreciated.
