What is the name of your state? Michigan but fire occured in Indiana

My husband drives a truck for a national company. Recently his truck expereinced a fire due to mechanical failure. All of the contents of the cab were destroyed ie, Playstation, television, clothes, Atlas, movies etc - about $500 in damages. His company is stating our personal homeowners policy should pay for this - is this true? Is there a way to make his company pay for it? Thanks for your assistance.

Did company negligence cause the fire or was it just a mechanical failure? The answer will determine who pays.
