I was involved in an accident where I was the one cited. I am contesting my ticket, and it will be going to court soon. I was told by my adjuster that the result of my criminal trial won't mean much to any lawsuit against me. Is that true even if I am found not guilty?

Both parties are with State Farm, but the other driver has a lawyer. My adjuster is trying to get a statement from the lawyer, and she wants to record my statement over the phone. Is this safe or should I get a lawyer too? Will insurance pay for a lawyer before I have been sued? I think comparative negligence is possible so I'm not really going after the other driver. I just don't want to be taken advantage of.

Thanks for the input!

If you need a lawyer to defend you in a lawsuit, your insurance will get one for you. They will not, I don't believe, pay for a lawyer of your choosing. The only reason you'd need your own lawyer is if you are trying to sue the other party.

If your ticket is thrown out, it will help your case but not decide it 100% one way or the other.

Yep. The issue of liability has nothing to do with your ticket.

Not unless you have something to hide.

Yes.
