I was in an accident (long story-mistaken for some else and guy broke my jaw in 4 places) and my health insurance hadn't kicked in yet. I had been in their employ for the required 90 days, but for some reason, at that time, they were switching health care plans, etc.

I have an attorney sueing ther guy who hit me but I also have medical bills of over $23,000.

Should I attempt to pay on each?
Pay off the $200 piddly ones only & make $100 payments on the rest?
File bankruptcy?
Go to one of those credit management companies?

I'm 24 and this is my first job after I graduated from a mechanics tech college. I make about $12 per hour and can barely afford to live now, much less pay these bills off in any reasonble amount of time. I also have a 10 month old daughter & try to support her also.

Any suggestions?

This should be covered by auto insurance, not health insurance.

While your attorney works on recovering $ for you, you should contact your creditors and work out payment arrangements with them. Get the arrangements in writing and make the payments.

I may be missing something, but I see no indication of the involvement of "auto insurance". "Accident" doesn't necessarily mean auto. But, even so, too many facts are ambiguous. Of the utmost importance are when the health insurance "kicked in" in relation to the posters emploment, accident, and switching of the health care plans. It is not possible to determine if there is / should be any health care plan coverage. Even so, subrogation would be a major issue here. So, if the poster can provide more detail, perhaps some advice would be forthcoming. Otherwise, to the more practical of questions, if you think you are going to owe the bill, do everything in your power to pay something. Otherwise, expect collections an creditors to knock at your door.
