Trying to get daughter back in my custody

What is the name of your state? MI. I'm having trouble regaining custody of my daughter. I wrote a letter years prior for her to attend school while staying with her grandmother. Recently her grandmother is using this letter to say she has custody. I have tried get her back I even asked Detroit Police to assist me. The supervisor said because of the letter her grandmother has custody.

Did you check to see if grandmother has been to court to get custody between when you left DD with her and today?

What exactly does this letter say, and to whom did you write it? How many "years prior"? Did the child's other parent sign it? Is the grandmother in question your mother or the other parent's mother?

Police officers are no more competent to opine about matters of family law that your local electrician or auto mechanic.
