What is the name of your state? London, UK

Hi,

Here in London I was called on by some poeple seling web advertising by making phone calls to people. A guy trying to sell me more than 500 pounds worth of advertising. Before placing any order I talked to their salesman and actually remember saying that I do not want their service at all and their service is not worth 500 pounds.

But these people simply requiring credit card details for confirmation of address genuity, they say they need debit or credit card to check identity and somehow able to track addresses or card numbers on their own. They also say they have my recording of phone conversation about placing order and that the contract is binding for 18 months no matter if I want to cancel it. (Verbal Contract)

So far:
1. At any stage I never said to continue with the order, the guy was never clear enough to say when he is trying to place order or he is storing information for general purpose.
2. I didn't get any invoice, any package from them. They are saying they sent confirmation packs but I didn't get it and this is not a lie! I would request to make further investigations with the mailing service for further confirmation. I am fine with it.
3. At any time they failed to inform cancellation policy despite me asking many many times, there was no clear response.
4. They are constantly declining my request to stop the web promotion. I am requesting to cancel the services but they are saying they can't do that. It is like buying a car, once you buy it you end up paying for it. (They are comparing it as an advertising campaign)
5. They didn't confirm the start of services, asked if I received order confirmation receipts.
6. They said I would have to sign the application pack and GET three references for web promotion (job as a driver) and they started web promotion on their own. The company name and description for promotion was added by them on their own and they never confirmed it with me.

I do remember them saying that they need 3 references which I haven't yet provided them and without it they can't continue. Now I have been contacted by them after a few weeks and they are declaring outstanding payments and I don't even know what is going on.

I am trying to get it cancelled, sms, emailing to the owner but no positive response, they are simply
not cancelling and saying it is now binding for 18 months??

What is going on? Can this happen, and if it can these people are capable of getting money out of your bank account. What rubbish.

What can I do? How can I come clean?

The owner already has bad reputation on above thread. I gave them false debit card info of my own card so it would have gotten declined. But I am not smart and realised they now have sort code and account number off it. This is serious for me, what could be done? I am a foreign student and would require your help.

These people want money money for nothing and are using Verbal Contract for it. I don't want their service, I just want them to go away.

Simple Solution

Start the chargeback process with your credit card company if they have your number. Inform the banking institution, if a credit card or simply a bank account, that you gave no authorization either verbally or in writing and would like to take any measure necessary to stop them from withdrawing funds; even if this means opening a new account.

Contact the Better Business Bureau, or equivalent in your country and lodge a complaint, be persistent about getting a positive response to your situation. Typically, the company will not desire to pursue the alleged indebtedness to them with such a great lack of success versus the cost involved to be aggressive.

US Law Only - WHEN POSTING A QUESTION, YOU MUST INCLUDE THE NAME OF YOUR STATE

Do you think the folks that own this website and forum put that there for window dressing? Of course not. That is rule #1 of this forum, if you are not going to follow the rules, leave. This site does not want nor encourage poster from anywhere but the US, by answering questions by those from other countries, these forums will become unmanagable. I will ask Mary, the forums moderater to remove your posts and ban you if you continue.

sorry about the post from outside. I wondered if the legal advice would be made available because in my case the law is slightly changed and it is just matter of undretsanding the case.

However, the above posters have been very helpful for me as I contacted a service in UK called Watchdog that officilaly run a scam invetigation and broadcasted on their BBC network.

I gave away a clue to the company I have been having a problem with and they contacted me about the cancellation and hopefully will contact me again on Monday with a positive response.

Thanks for the advice. Didn't mean any harm.
