I am a full time employee at a company that offers tuition reimbursement. I asked for approval to continue my B.S. in Technical Communication and was denied. No explaination given. Less than a week later, another full time employee made a request and it was granted. The company I work for manufactures medical products. There is without a doubt substantial use for a person educated in documentation. Currently I am a mfg tech. The other person that was granted permission to seek tuition reimbursement is currently a maintenance tech. The education requested was Mechanical Engineering. The only thing for him to do at this company once he gets his degree is leave. There is no need for an engineer. Is this discrimination?

Yes. But nothing in your post suggests that it is ILLEGAL discrimination. Most discrimination is perfectly legal.
