What is the name of your state? CA

Well, I decided to go back to my unit after being gone for 96 days. It was not easy by any means, but I manned up, and just went back. I thought it would be a lot worse than it really was. I turned myself in to my local I&I Station, and they had me on the 1st available flight within 2 hours. I was escorted to the plane by 2 Marines, and then escorted by Air Marshalls to my connecting flight to San Diego. Once the plane touched down, I was no longer escorted though. My roomate was waiting for me with the the ADNCO and the Duty Driver. They brought me back to the OOD, who checked me in. After that, I was released to my old barracks room, and told to report to my shop at the normal time. The next morning, (in Civies) I walked into my shop. NOT EASY, but not as bad as I expected. My Gunny (SNCOIC) pulled me out of the room and talked to me. He asked me why I had left for the 3 months, and I explained that I had NO good reason, but that I would be honest. I said I caught my fiance with another man when I went home on leave, and snapped. I told him I had been unhappy with the Marine Corps at the time, and it pushed me over the edge. He asked if I had used any drugs, and I said I smoked Marijuana while I was home, but wasn't sure if I would or would not pass the test. From there, he told me to just stand by untill they figure out whats going to happen to me.

Anyways, from there, I went to supply and got my cammies and personal items that had all been boxed up, and I was just on standby for a few weeks. I basically come to work as if nothing had ever happened. My command wanted to make sure I got paid so that I could buy basic neccesities since I was so broke, so they delayed filing my charges for two weeks.

It was about 45 days from the day I turned myself in untill I had to report to my Company Gunny / 1st Sgt. In the mean time, I was placed into a "CSAC" program for popping for Marijuana on the urinalysis, and for being a self referall for gambling. The program lasted three weeks. When I went to the CO Gunny, he said that my Desertion charge had been dropped to a UA charge by my XO, and that I was being charged with ART. 86 and 112. I accepted NJP as punishment, and thats where it stands right now.

I posted this for any other Marines who may be in the same situation. Please remember everything is done on a Case by Case basis, so my experience may not be the same as yours.

Does anyone have any predictions as to what will happen? I got a positive reconmendation from my OIC (a CWO2) to retain me.

oh and of course, any questions, don't hesitate to ask. It may take a few days for me to reply though, I have no computer access in the barracks.

Another prime example for UA Marines out there. The Marine Corps is special. They do things there own way. There is no stream lined way out. I wish you the best of luck.
