It turns out that I actually had TWO windstorm policies when hurricane Ike hit - we had changed insurance companies, and the old policy overlapped the new by several months (didn't know that it hadn't been cancelled!)....anyhow, of course the adjuster has lowballed us considerably on the repairs to our house, even going so far as to depreciate the removal of the carpet! (How on earth can that be depreciated?!?!?!)

I just want to be able to get my home back to a normal, pre-hurricane state....do I have any recourse with the second insurace policy? After all, they certainly didn't mind that I paid for two - I don't necessarily need double claims, but it ought to be worth helping out with my 7K deductible! Any help?

I'm not familiar with wind policies, but, generally, when you have 2 policies covering the same thing, they will each pay a portion of the claim. So, for example, if your claim is worth $10k, you will receive that, minus your deductibles, split between the 2 companies. You will not, however, receive $20k.
