I lived with my ex boyfriend in a rental apartment. Signed a one year lease. We ended the relationship and the ex bkyfriend stayed 1 month more in the apartment. Then we terminated the lease 4 months early because neither of us wanted to live there. After the fact, I received a letter from a debt collector to pay for: early lease termination, damages done to apartment, and the last month's rent (which my ex boyfriend did not pay). This collector let me know that both of our names and credit histories are under join and severed liability to pay the money we owe. My ex and I verbally agreed to split the total settlement in half and pay equal parts. Now, I have finished paying my half and he has not made a single payment on his. Can I sue him for the money he owes? I will have to pay his half if he does not make a payment in January 2016.
