I have two daughters by my ex wife, who has been on welfare since we divorced in 1996. She has an education and is very intelligent, however, she chooses to remain on welfare. I have been back and forth since that time with the child support offices here in Baltimore and in GA, with no assistance. I don't mind helping to take care of my daughter's but because the two states can't get it together, and don't want to handle the situation, i am now being penalized for over $8,000 in back support. (Which I do not owe.) Maryland is taking the current order out of my paycheck and has been for two years. My question is what can I do about this back support, that I do not owe. I do know that it keeps going up because of the welfare. When I left my ex-wife, I left her everything except my car and clothes, would have left the car if she was willing to learn how to drive and get a license. She was the one who decided to sell everything and move to GA from NY four years ago and remain there on the system. Which is the main reason the marriage did not last, I believe in working and taking care of my family and she insisted that the system could take care of us. I come from the Islands where we are raised to work hard and there is no "system" to take care of us. It is a matter of "you work or you and your family don't eat". If you know of anything I can do to help my situation, please let me know.
