This is not a question but a very interesting article I just read in the paper today. I thought it very informative for UA Marines out there.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — A former Marine wanted for allegedly deserting during the Vietnam War was among 87 people arrested during a fugitive roundup this week.

Gary Whiting was picked up in Buffalo on Sept. 24 on a 40-year-old military desertion warrant, the U.S. Marshals Service said. He was later released, though his legal status was unclear Friday.

Reached at his daughter’s home, Whiting declined to talk about his arrest.

Maj. Jay Delarosa, a Marine Corps spokesman, said he could not discuss Whiting’s case specifically. In general, he said, the units from which Marines desert decide what, if any, action to take once they are caught.

Goes to show that there is no streamlined process for UA Marines. You go back to where you went from and they decide what is going to happen.

Thanks for sharing Cyberspook, What pisses me off and burns my anus besides a fire
under it, is that, this clown will do less than 90 days and get a BCD. About five years
back, we caught another Marine who deserted out of the Nam for 32 years, and the above
punishment is what the Corps gave him. He was caught crossing into the US from Canada.
Back in those days, a lot would do a ROTC~~~Run Over To Canada!

UA is one thing, but DESERTION specially in a Combat Zone is day and night!
IMHO he should do at least 10 years+ hard labor and be dishonorably discharged.
