I have rented a room in a rowhouse for nearly two years. I never signed a lease and my relationship with my landlord was based on a verbal agreement, with details being worked out as situations arose. My landlord has been renovating his property for resale--extensively--for the past year. he started a project in my room that lasted from the first week of january until the second week of march. (10 weeks.) he told me originally that it would take 2-3 weeks. I was unable to stay in my room for large portions of this construction time. Can I ask to get rent refunded for the days I was unable to stay there? Also, i was sexually harassed by one of the workmen who had a key and the alarm code to the house and my landlord hired this man on for additional work after I told him about the harassment. my landlord said he couldn't do anything unless the man physically touched me. What are my landlord's responsibilities in that area? (my safety, that is.)additionally, a phone line was installed for use when i moved in. it was put in my landlords name, but I paid all the installation fees and all the charges for the line. my landlord had the phone disconnected without my permission, as an act of vengeance. Does he have the right to terminate my phone service if it is in his name? Please help. I am going through a very ugly eviction and am unclear on my rights. PS. I have always paid my rent in a timely manner and never deducted for construction before.
