we had purchased furniture at a flea market in ohio. we had a verbal agreement to pay $100 per month until paid in full. paid $154 over phone using debit card. one week later, the vendor took $600 out of our account using the debit card number without consent or even telling us she would do so. we have contacted police and the bank. what further action should we take? and can she be held responsible for the overdraft charges we incured due to this unauthorized withdraw?

Debit card

She would be responsible for any expense you have because of this. However, since your agreement was oral, you may have trouble proving it in court. Nevertheless, you could take this to Small Claims court and try and get your money back from her, at least the amount that she should not have collected up to the point of the trial, and to get your overdraft charges also.
