What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NEW HAMPSHIRE
I have been charged with the unauthorized practice of law by the NH Attorney General's Office. I have practiced as a management consultant for over 25 years and this is the first charge against me. I refer clients that need legal advice to reputable attorneys and the only two complaints ever filed against me were filed by disgruntled defense attorneys. I did assist my two clients in preparing pro se writs and pleadings and sent out Demand Letters to the Defendants under my name. The State contends that this constitutes practicing without a license and that my ads mislead consumers. I have voluntarily ceased any actions that put me in jeapardy, but the State is seeking an injunction and fines of $10,000 per charge despite my advising them of my voluntary compliance. I am concerned about any threat to my consulting practice from an over-zealous injunction. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Normally, I'd say "get a lawyer", but just to be clear, "hire someone else".

Good luck.

Maybe you should have added to your professional resume the unauthorized practice of medicine. All my doctor friends drive fancier cars, and live in nicer homes than me.
