I live in Arizona. I vacated a room in an aparment shared with another roommate. The roommate found a replacement for me. The replacement refuses to sign a lease addendum adding her name to the lease and is not paying me rent on the room. I have paid the old roommate for the room for the remainder of the lease (expiring in August). Can I have the replacement roommate removed or take any action against her? The landlord says they can not threaten an eviction for an unauthorized tenant that all they can do is allow my previous roommate to sign me off the lease releasing me from future damages.

So get yourself signed off the lease and released from future rent and damages, then ask former roommate to return the excess money. You may be able to enforce that in small claims court if she refuses.
