I had been getting calls from a company we refused to speak to for about 3 months now. We kept telling them to stop calling. One day they talked to my wife and she had listened to why they were calling offering gas vouchers and airline discounts and said they were Distinct Advantage. Now, these were offered as trial memberships and if we didn't cancel within so many days they would charge our account for the ones offered. So to get them off the phone she agreed and made a mistake of giving them our account number only to cancel the memberships as soon as she got them. So after she agreed to this they kept talking (my wife is a very busy person - school, work, child, etc) and didn't have time for this. Then she got mad and told them not to send any of it and that she cancelled everything. They wouldn't listen to her and kept trying to sell her more offers and so she cussed them out and hung up.
In the next 10 minutes they called back about 10 times... we finally answered and told them to stop calling.
Next, a few days went by and we recieved in the mail the offers she had initially agreed to and cancelled them. No problems with those. Then we recieved another one they never mentioned and canceled that. No problems with that either. About a week later after we thought we were done with this company we got a $149.00 charge on our account from some Freedom Gold company... apparently Distinct Advantage goes by many names. This caused a chain reaction of overdraft fees since it was totally unexpected. We filed a fraud claim with our bank but they said since we gave them our account # they were not aable to do anything...not even reverse the overdraft charges. Our account was frozen and we had to open a new one... this is what the bank had us do because the company might take more money from us... so why doesnt the bank help us with THEIR fees? This seems completely wrong and now it seems the bank is giving us a runaround.
We also have been calling the company every day trying to get our $149 back. Each day they tell is it will be sent in about 48hrs... and 48hrs later they are telling us the same thing. I think the last time we talked to them they actually did send it but we will be keeping in touch.
ripoffreport.com has lots of other people listed that this has happened to. Go to ripoffreport.com/search.asp and type in freedom gold in the company name search. Same story for many others.
Anybody know anything that will help me get my money back?
Thanks,
Matth
