What is the name of your state?Texas

Today I was contacted by a lease back company about an uncollected check for an account that I paid off seven years ago. They claim that I did not pay off the debt and that the check was returned insufficient funds. This account has long since been closed . For payment of the account the company requires a money order . They state that they have no payment records and I am 100% positive that I paid them and just didn't get the check back. They state that they will file charges of writing a bad check for which I did not due. I have not heard anything from this company in years.
what is the statue of limitations on this type of situation???

There are lots of 'scum-sucking, bottom-feeding' debt purchasers who buy these long dead (and unenforceable) accounts with the intention to intimidate unsuspecting 'victims' into paying a debt they may never have owed or where the SOL has clearly expired.

Who is this one?? Sounds like 'Asset Acceptance'.

If they contact you again, simply tell them in your nicest voice, "Sorry, but I don't remember that check. If you say that it was NSF and you have it, please send a copy to me."

They state that they will file charges of writing a bad check for which I did not due.
Chances are VERY high that this is just a threat tactic to try to get you to pay a long dead debt (even if it was valid). Tell them to go ahead.... since Texas law requires them to take certain steps (written demand, etc.) BEFORE even allowing a lawsuit!!!
