Understanding of Release Agreement and Discharges for Employers/Employees

Can release agreements be broken if one of the parties discovers something in the future that was not known at the time of the signing? If a settlement was significantly less than what was appropriate for the specific damages, can someone file suit and then allow the other party to counter-sue for injunctive relief to recover the original settlement?
