Unemployed and behind on car payment

I would like to know if I have some type of protection from my car being repo'd. I did not purchase nor was I asked about purchasing the insurance that will pay the car if I became unemployed. Now I am into the third month behind in car payment. I have been seeking employment, ready to work anywhere. I need the car to look for jobs. I was laid off, not fired. My unemployement benefits is over. Aside from the obvious (pay the car notes) is there protection against the car being picked up?

Sorry but nothing can prevent the car from being taken. at least try and work out something with the finance company. ignoring the problem will make it worse.
