I am disputing a charge for a second doctor's appointment that was billed to me, when it was agreed that it would not be.

Following a grossly inadequate appt conducted in OB/GYN (they sent me there when I had requested to be seen in Family Practice), I contacted my insurance company and the clinic mgr immediately. The clinic manager found a doctor and agreed to set up the second visit in Family Practice that I was not to be billed for.

Against our agreement, they submitted a bill ( initially to my insurance company). Rightfully, my insurance wouldn't pay for it. After numerous discussions with the insurance company and they with the clinic, the clinic refused to drop the charges and they have now sent a collection agency after me to collect on the bill.

My credit is stellar and I would like to avoid it being jeapordized it, I also am not willing to be railroaded into paying for something that I shouldn't have to. I need to find a way to get these guys and protect my good credit. How and when can someone like this report erroneous charges to a credit bureau?

I understand that I have 30 days to dispute the charge with the collection agency. Where do I go next to protect myself and to go after the clinic?

Thank you in advance for your help.

*** Pretty simple solution..... simply return to the practice with your written statement that you would not be charged and I am sure that they will remove the erroneous billing. What, you don't have their promise in writing?? Then it is simply your word against theirs as to the 'non-billing' issue..... and not one that you will win easily.

*** Okay, then pay the bill. After paying, if you still feel that their actions are incorrect, you can consider filing a small claims suit against them to try to recover the erroneous billing.

"How and when can someone like this report erroneous charges to a credit bureau?"
*** They can report your credit profile at anytime.

"I understand that I have 30 days to dispute the charge with the collection agency. Where do I go next to protect myself and to go after the clinic?"
*** Your county small claims court.
