I live in Georgia. Three years ago the county I pay taxes to passed a mandatory billing for garbage pickup. I pay taxes to this county because my masterbedroom sits in this county. (I have no idea where this regulation came from) The other parts of my house sit accross the county line.(2nd county)Unfortunatly, my driveway also runs off a street that is in a different county. (3rd) I tried multiple times by phone, writing and in person to explain this situation to the garbage company. To make a long story short, my garbage bill was over 400.00 before they started to first pick up my garbage. I disputed this bill in writing, agreed to start paying as soon as service started, got a employee with reasonable intelligence who came out saw my situation and explained to the driver that he had to come into the second county and pick up my garbage and started my service.I was told (verbally) that an adjustment would be made to my bill for the now 460.00. I paid for the first 6 months in advance. ( or so I thought) The clerical department applied this to the disputed bill, sent me a past due for the balance along with extensive late charges and I have been fighting with the company for two additional years. They still have not made the adjustments and everything I have paid has been applied to the disputed bill.(All thier letters ever say is that they are looking into the problem, then I do not hear from them again until billing time) To top it off, they are back to not picking up my garbage again, for over three months now. (And even though I have paid several hundred dollars @ 14.00 monthy, my bill has continued to climb as they are addding a $25.00 to 40.00 monthly late penalty to the disputed bill.) What, if anything can I do? I have to pay a second company to pick up my garbage that they are billing me for. Help is greatly appreciated.

Sue them for charging for services not rendered. Get this mess into court and the judge will straighten it all out. Subpeona the "employee with reasonable intelligence" if you can recall his/her name. You might talk to a real estate attorney about whether you really have to pay that county's garbage tax.
