I own a small service business in the san francisco (ca) bay area that has been established for almost 40 years. Recently, the public utility (pacific gas & electric) turned off the power to my shop for non payment. This was an unannounced shutoff for a single month $78 bill that was overdue 25 days. I was required to pay the $78 bill and the current $88 bill that was not overdue, along with a $20 restoral charge in order to get reconnected. I have never been shutoff for non payment in the past. Their representative informed me that anytime an account is more than 15 days overdue, a 24 hour notice is sent out and if the bill is not paid within a prescribed period of time, the power is shutoff. I stated that I never received this 24 hour notice, asked if it was sent by registered mail and they said no. I have now received another bill from pg&e requesting that I pay them a $150 deposit within the next 10 days. I do not feel that I have been treated fairly and need to know if I have any recourse in my dilemna. Thankyou.
