I was recently terminated at my previous job in Nebraska and have applied for quite a few jobs that would have been very good jobs but never did receive any responses. The company that I was working for said they fired me for insubordination. I left my employment and went on unemployment immediately as the first determination by the Nebraska department of labor ruled that I was eligible to collect immediately. The company appealed and we went to trial in which the Commissioner of labor ruled that I was let go as a convenience to the company and that they could find no evidence of mis-conduct or insubordination. Since the hearing I have still been trying to get a job with no luck. I have since found out that the company that fired me, when contacted, has been telling all employers that I was terminated for insubordination, therefore convincing them to not even return a call. I want to know if there is anything that I can do as I have missed out on some good jobs as a result of this? I have since sent a letter to the company that I used to work for asking for my severance pay they immediately sent a letter back saying that they were going to pay me 8 total weeks of severance in exchange for me to not say anything bad about the departure. I am frustrated and would like to sue this group if I have a case but I do not know if I have one. Can someone help me as the HR manager of this company has really made it hard for me to get a job in my community as she has told my employers that I was insubordinate. Help needed in Nebraska!!!
