I was laid off from my job without any notice and without any additional pay. According to my union book, the union must be given 10 days notice and I must be given 1 week of pay, and all vacation pay. My union had no notice and I was not given any pay. Now my union is not doing anything to help me. What can I do now.

You need to immediately contact and hire a labor lawyer that primarily represents union employees. You can find one at attorneypages.com. Second, you have to follow precisely your union handbook (sometimes called the Collective Bargaining Agreement or CBA) procedures on lodging grievances. And make sure you do it on time! Also, if you had passed your probationary period, you are probably covered by the case of McGraw v. Huntington Beach. That case stands for the proposition that union employees who have passed their probationary period, have a constitutionally protected interest in their job.
