I officially withdrew from a Mississippi university (I am a resident) in 2004. A hold was placed on my account in November 2007. The school says it was because I withdrew from school in the fall of 2002 after a financial aid deadline which caused one of my student loans to be returned, thus causing the hold. I do not recall withdrawing especially since I was enrolled the following semester.

I have no problem paying the money IF the hold is legit. However, I have contacted the school by phone, my e-mail, and by fax requesting written proof that I withdrew and have not received a response. Is there any legal action I can take? The hold is preventing the release of my transcripts. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

Do you still have the paperwork from your official withdrawl?

Does your unofficial transcript show you took classes AFTER the time they mistakenly say you withdrew?

Do you still have the student loan, or are you still paying for it? What does the student loan company say about it?

Is there ANYTHING that would make them think you did?

How much are you talking about?

So take a business day and GO THERE and ask for the things you need? It's easy to blow off a phone call and email, it's harder to deny a flesh and blood person.

What do you need it for? I don't think you need legal action yet - you still have some options.
