My partner and I did not wed officially although we were together for 23 years , had a daughter , and held ourselves out to public and private to be man and wife , before he passed away from Mesothelioma .Eric had two older children from a previous marriage that lasted 3 years . As Tennessee does not accept any type of common law claim , the older children that reside in Florida ,refused to give letters of testemary for myself to become administrator for a wrongful death suit , but they would sign off for our daughter to do this . So she has assumed the role of special administrator but is there a way for myself to petition to be held responsible for debts that incurred in our life together as it is my responsibilty as I see it , with or without a marriage decree, and I dont want any of this to be in any way a burden on our daughter ,now or in the future . Thank you for your help >

Being the administrator of his state does not make her responsible for his debts. It does make her responsible to use his assets to pay off his debts, but if there are not enough assets to cover all of the debts, she does not become responsible personally.

You cannot become responsible for the debts in his name in order to relieve his estate of that responsibility.
