I am interested in using a particular recording of a song for the purpose of advertising.

I want to use a song from an artist as the sound track to a video display at a convention for music educators.

My question is, whom do I contact and what should I expect, if anything?
Does this usually cost anything? Is there usually a problem getting permission?

Also, this will be used in Texas for music educators who are usually suspicious of everything involving copyright. All other material in the video representation will be my own property and subject to my rights under copyright laws.

Thanks,
