What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Michigan

What are the laws pertaining to the use of quotes? I make photo greeting cards for resale, and would like to include inspirational quotes from various sources. I would like to include the authors name with these quotes, but do not know the legalities. If I need permission to use the names, can I use the quote only with an "unknown author" as the signature?

Also...

Pertaining to photography... I know that I need permission of use when photographing people's faces if I am to reuse the image in any public forum. Does this pertain to images for resale only? Can I use an image for public display without permission of the photographed person? Are there any other features besides the face that I need to obtain permission of use for?

"Thank You..."

Let me answer your two questions. Inserting a quote by author is allowed. Inserting a photo without permission is no-no. You see, in colleges, they made you insert quotes to avoid PLAGISM so you would credit that to authors. For photos, you heard stories of famous stars suing millions of dollars for photos that they don't want u to see?

Thank You Combat!

Even though I am selling these photo cards for personal profit, I will not get into any trouble using quotes and crediting the authors? (Whether they be alive or dead today?)

...I really do not want to do this if there is any potential of offending anyone...

Thanks Again...

As long as you credit the author, then you should be safe... but as far as the pictures are concerned...make sure you get the permission from that person to use it in any way and get it in writing...I don't care if it is a picture of someone's cat...get permission and get it in writing...and make sure you get in writing in a way that later on in years that person or persons can't come back and ask for their part of the profits...unless you want to give them a percentage...most people are money hungry, so don't be surprised if they ask for money up front...
When I was in school, I took a picture of my dog...one of those ugly but cute wrinkled faced bull dogs...and I made it into a t shirt design, and printed lots of them...my teacher made sure I had permission from the owner of the dog to do so...I told him it was my dog, so I had no problems... :)
