I made a used car sales contract with a neighbor. According to the contract I am to purchase her 1998 Honda Accord for $3500. We made bi weekly payment arrangements of $350.
I obtained possession of the vehicle on April 1st 2013 and made my first payment on April 15th. On the 21st of April the seller demanded money and took car along with all my personal belongings and refuses to return it until she is paid but the next payment is due on the 29th of April.
Should I pursue assistance from local authorities or seek legal advice?

What are the authorities going to do, except help you get back the personal belongings from the vehicle?

Was your contract put in writing? Did your first payment bounce, or did you fail to comply with another term of the agreement? Why did they repossess the vehicle?

Any issue with the vehicle is likely to be a civil matter, in which you would have to sue for relief.
